Japan’s Young Guns Rookie Web Reports

Despite the high temperatures during the whole winter season, the YOUNG GUNS ROOKIE FEST took place in a perfect and well-shaped halfpipe, shrank in sizing but not in quality thanks to the support of Global Snow Design and “tamakoshi”.

Winners of the most unfamous WRT tour stop in Japan can’t wait to attend to the Big Finals at Kitzsteinhorn Snowpark in Zell am See-Kaprun, Austria from March 31th to April 5th, 2020.

World Rookie Tour cancel all upcoming events

Due to the Corona virus international outbreak emergency, World Rookie Tour cancels all the next events scheduled in Japan, Italy and Austria.

We decided to follow the World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines in order to protect our rookie community and to counteract the COVID-19 epidemic with the only reasonable action: to cancel all our upcoming events and to don’t announce new events until the situation will be declared safe again.

As many others around the world, we didn’t realize the situation immediately, and we apologize for this. People are afraid, this is normal and appropriate, and we don’t want to encourage rookie teams with their coaches and parents, to travel to our events and to travel in general. There is only one thing to do: stay at home and follow the WHO recommendations for the prevention of the Coronavirus.

As an immediate consequence, all the below WRT events are cancelled:
Indy Park Jam Rookie Fest // Nekoma. JPN // 14.03.2020 // Snowboard SS
Ursus Rookie Fest // Madonna di Campiglio. ITA // 15-19.03.2020 // Snowboard and Freeski SS
Kronplatz Rookie Fest // Kroplatz. ITA // 20-22.03.2020 // Freeski SS
World Rookie Finals // Seiser Alm. ITA // 23-27.03.2020 // Freeski SS
World Rookie Finals // Kitzsteinhorn, Zell Am See-Kaprun. AUT // 31.03-05.04.2020 // Snowboard SS/HP

We don’t know at the moment if there will be reserve dates for the 2020 World Rookie Finals.
More information about World Rookie Tour future events and the calendar for Snowboard, Freeski and Skateboard will be released as soon as possible.

Black Yeti recommends to inform yourself about the Corona virus situation and prevention by reading, first, all the necessary information on World Health Organization dedicated page www.who.int/emergencies/diseases/novel-coronavirus-2019.

Cancellation of some WRT events is not the end of the world: it is a small contribution to avoid it.
We, as rookie and sport community, can take together serious action to support the prevention of Coronavirus, so let’s do it, taking it as a serious danger.

From our partner – Through the Wormhole: Audi Nines 2020

The Audi Nines returns to Sölden and Gurgl, Austria from 13-18 April, 2020

Take your protein pills and put your helmet on! Winter sports fans can prepare to be transported to new realms as the Audi Nines returns to Sölden and Gurgl, Austria for a third year of inter-dimensional snowboard and freeski action.

Audi Nines presented by Falken in Sölden & Gurgl
>From the 13th to the 18th of April, 2020, the Audi Nines presented by Falken returns to Sölden and Gurgl, Austria for its twelfth year. Building on the success of earlier events at this location, this year’s plans include ever-more spectacular snow features intended to challenge athletes and entertain onlookers alike, while maintaining the Audi Nines’ high standards of progressive snowpark design. Meanwhile, open-to-the-public events like the Night Shoot on Wednesday, the 15th of April in Gurgl, and the Contest Day on Saturday, the 18th of April in Sölden, continue to provide the chance for all to witness this snow sports marvel first-hand and free of charge.

Athletes Take the Lead in Course Design
For 2020 the Audi Nines riders have spearheaded the process of drafting the event’s otherworldly snow features. At a creative workshop held in Innsbruck, Austria, as documented in the “Behind the Nines” video series, the athletes came up with course designs for both the Sölden and Gurgl venues that will challenge their peers in exciting new ways, while keeping audiences reaching for the rewind button.

“The venues in Sölden and Gurgl will explore new realms of design in snow,” promises Audi Nines founder Nico Zacek. “You can expect to see even more incredible action in Big Air and Slopestyle-influenced settings, as well as some pioneering new features, like ‘The Wormhole,’ that will challenge your understanding of physics.”

“It’s rad to be able to turn some ideas you daydream about into reality,” says Clemens Millauer (AUT). “The Audi Nines team can turn doodles into your riding playground for a week.”

“For me Audi Nines is the only place where I can really say what I’d like to ride,” says Mathilde Gremaud (SUI). “ It’s amazing to see our ideas come to life.”

“There’s much production going into it,” says James Woods (GBR) of the design process. “It’s just in another league. But the basis of it is exactly why we all got into skiing and snowboarding. There is so much opportunity to get banging content for the rest of the season.”

Become A Nine: Join the Nines Family!
Don’t want to be stuck sitting at home while the action goes down in Sölden and Gurgl? As always, the Become A Nine video contest gives passionate athletes worldwide—male and female, skier and snowboarder—the awesome chance to earn a spot at the session and become a member of the Audi Nines crew. Click here to find out how to enter your video submission! The deadline to submit is the 1st of April, 2020.

As always, more information about the Audi Nines can be found at audinines.com. Stay tuned and get ready for lift off!

Successful 2nd edition of the Freeski World Rookie Fest 2020 at Nordkette Skyline Park (Innsbruck)

Sunshine welcomed riders last weekend at the 2nd edition of the Freeski World Rookie Fest at Nordkette Skyline Park above Innsbruck. From 14th – 16th of February the best up-and-coming riders showed their skills in the Slopestyle course. In both categories– Groms (born 2005 and younger) and Rookies (born 2002 – 2004) – riders tried to snatch a spot on the podium and therefore a ticket for the World Rookie Tour Final 2020 at Seiser Alm. Additionally the Austrian Junior Champions got crowned.

During the qualification on Saturday the 35 kids and teenagers were greeted with sunshine. Riders showcased high level riding in the perfectly prepared slopestyle course with a spectacular view of Innsbruck, which doesn’t not only wow tourists, but also locals every time. The young Freeski riders had two runs each, with the better one counting for the result. Same format also applied on Sunday for the finals. The biggest challenge here was the wind in the 2nd run, but this didn’t daunt the boys and girls to showcase their best riding.

15-years-old Daniel Bacher, one of Austria’s great hopes for the future, dominated the Rookie competition and repeated his victory from last season. He went into finals with a lot of confidence and convinced with his 2nd run with a Frontside Switch-Up at the first rail, a Switch Ride Cork 540 Mute Grab and a Left Double Cork 1080 Safety Grab on the jumps and a Backslide 450 with Tail Tap at the last rail feature. Only Matej Svancer (CZE), who claimed a Gold medal in Big Air at the Youth Olmypic Games in Lausanne in January, came close to him, but Daniel’s execution was cleaner with more flow and that meant 1st place for him. Matej ended up 2nd and Gian Andri Bolinger (SUI) completed the podium as 3rd. At the Groms category, Swiss Fradri Rhyner was celebrating his win with 2nd placed Andreas Penz (AUT) and Timothe Roche (FRA) in 3rd. The girls winner is Muriel Mohr from Germany. All riders on the podium were rewarded with a ticket for the Freeski World Rookie Tour Final in March. The winner additionally received an „All-round carefree package“ with accommodation, meals and lift tickets. Since 2005 the World Rookie Tour, which includes dozens of events globally, offers young freestyle talents the opportunity to collect competition experience.

Austrian Junior Championships
Also The Austrian Junior Champions were determined last weekend. Daniel Bacher (youth) and Andreas Penz (pupils) entered the podium a 2nd time on Sunday and were very happy about the titles.

Austrian Freeski Days
The Austria Ski Federation (ÖSV) hosted the Austrian Freeski Days over the weekend. Interested kids and teenagers had the possibility to learn first freestyle steps with the help of the experienced Freeski Austria coaches. This winter the tour includes 17 stops across Austria with over 500 participants between 8-16 years.

The 2nd edition of the Freeski World Rookie Fest in Innsbruck is a wrap. Thank you to partners Marker, Völkl, TSG, Therese Mölk, Innsbruck, Blue Tomato, Freeski Austria, Level and to host resort Nordkette.
