Ville Uotila Won Total Fight

The action was hot in one of the season’s last events on the Swatch TTR Tour – the 4Star Grandvalira Total Fight Masters of Freestyle.

VILLE UOTILA TAKES SECOND CONSECUTIVE WIN AT TOTAL FIGHT

Grandvalira, Andorra – March 28th, 2009: The action was hot in one of the season’s last events on the Swatch TTR Tour – the 4Star Grandvalira Total Fight Masters of Freestyle. An impressive international line up ventured to Grandvalira in the Pyrenees to fight it out in this renowned Slopestyle event. Despite disruptive weather on the competition day, the riders still put on a great show. Ville Uotila (FIN) came through in the finals and took out his second consecutive Total Fight Title, moving him up to World No.23 and earning him 6000 Euros. Second place went to Norwegian rookie Pål Sörensen, and Gerome Matthieu (FRA) finished third.

The format for the finals was a brutal head to head match up or “Total Fight”. Riders had to battle against each other, mano a mano, with the top qualifier taking on the last qualifier etc. The riders and event organizers decided to finish the finals early due to heavy snowfall which was slowing the course down and this meant that the winners were decided based on their riding in the second rounds.

Ville paved his way to victory in the first round against Belgian rider Seppe Smits with a switch BS 900, FS 540 and a huge switch BS 700. Smits answered back with a cab 540, FS tail grab and a BS 180. Despite having a stomach infection Smits put in an amazing effort and moved up to World No.39. In the second round Ville came up against his fellow countryman, Janne Lipsanen (FIN) who busted out a sweet BS 540 but bailed on his second jump trying a BS 900. Ville’s response to this was a huge switch BS 900, FS 540 and a gigantic switch BS 180, earning him top scores and sealing his second Total Fight victory.

“Seppe was sick so I got through the first round pretty easy. I had nothing to lose so I just went for it on my next run and it went pretty well. It’s pretty cool to get so many TTR points as it should bump me up in the rankings, I’m thinking now that maybe I should have gone to the US Open and I might have had a chance to beat my last year 13th position”, said the stoked Finn.

Second place went to 21years old Pål Sörensen (NOR) whose run in the second round included a sweet Cab 900 and FS 540 which moved him up to World No.52. His result today, combined with his 4Star Arctic Open win and 7th place at the 6Star Oakley Arctic Challenge suggest he has made a strong recovery. “It was a bit scary with the wind and the snow as you could not know your speed but the park was cool. I hadn’t imagined that they would have such a good park here in Andorra”, he said about today’s contest.

The Swatch TTR Tour is slowly winding down but there is still plenty of action to come. This weekend the 3Star Showdown Over The City is going down in Vancouver, Canada and the women are fighting for the Title at the 6Star Roxy Chicken Jam in Mammoth, California, USA. Log onto to www.ttrworldtour.com for fresh news, updates and videos from all the weekend’s events.

JAMIE ANDERSON CHASING BACK-TO-BACK SWATCH TTR TITLES

Mammoth, California, USA – March 18th, 2009: A make or break showdown is imminent for the women on the Swatch TTR World Snowboard Tour. From March 27th – 29th, 2009, the 6Star Roxy Chicken Jam will grip hold of Mammoth Mountain, California, where girls will hunt for the final two batches of 1000 TTR ranking points in hope of securing glory. 2007/2008 Tour Champion, Jamie Anderson (USA) could go home with her second consecutive Swatch TTR World Title after next Sunday’s Slopestyle Finals, but a vast field of international talent will ensure that she has some heavy competition to contend with.

Current World No.1 Jamie Anderson has dominated throughout the season and shows little sign of losing her stranglehold on the top spot. With the win of a second consecutive Swatch TTR Title, Jamie would be the first rider to claim back-to-back honors since the TTR’s inception. Jamie’s domination throughout the season has been characterized by her ability to shred across all contest formats.

Depending on the outcome of the upcoming 6Star Burton US Open, there are a number of riders with a chance to dethrone Jamie at the Roxy Chicken Jam. Finishing in the Swatch TTR Top 3 brings with it glory, cash rewards and a guaranteed start in the major events next season. World No.15, Kjersti Buaas (NOR) sits lower down the ranking but still has four remaining results for her end of season total. She proved her ability to step up in Slopestyle and Halfpipe at the Burton European Open and is one rider who could snatch the Swatch TTR Title from Jamie.

Silvia Mittermueller (GER) moved into the World No.2 spot after her 3rd place in the Slopestyle at the 5Star Asian Open. This powerful performance, combined with a slew of top 5 results, put her in a good position to finish the season strongly.

The Roxy Chicken Jam will also provide Czech rookie and World No.4 Sarka Pancochova, with a chance to shine. She has been one of the most talked about newcomers of the season and will be looking to live up to the hype with a Top 3 finish. Lisa Wiik (NOR) and Kelly Clark (USA) proved their Slopestyle and Halfpipe prowess at the 6Star Burton European Open. And, past Tour Champion and World No.12, Cheryl Maas (NED) is always a dangerous competitor and will be ready to push the riding level with big spins and gnarly rail combos.

Swatch TTR World Tour Next to Final Event

A nail biting grand finale of mega proportions is looming on the horizon for the Swatch TTR World Snowboard Tour. After a week full of action at the Tour defining 6Star Burton US Open from March 17th – 22nd, 2009, the TTR Tour Champion will be crowned after the Slopestyle Finals on Sunday. The freestyle Mecca of Stratton, Vermont, will see Peetu Piiroinen (FIN) and Shaun White (USA) clash for the Title as the world top riders vie for a coveted position in the TTR Top 5.

THE TIME OF RECKONING HAS ARRIVED FOR THE
SWATCH TTR WORLD SNOWBOARD TOUR

Vermont, USA – March 9th, 2009: A nail biting grand finale of mega proportions is looming on the horizon for the Swatch TTR World Snowboard Tour.

Throughout the season, Peetu Piiroinen has been working tirelessly to secure his future as Swatch TTR World Champion and currently sits in the World No.1 position. His journey to the top has seen him place fifth or higher at all the season’s major 6Star events he entered. One rider who could stop him at the US Open is Shaun White, the contest machine. The 2006/07 TTR Tour Champion’s recent victory at the 5Star Intelligent Design has given him the sixth of seven results necessary for victory. Shaun has finished atop podium in some of the major 6Star events ensuring that the Title is still in his grasp. History favours Shaun at the US Open where he clinched his 2006/2007 Tour Title and took out both formats in 2008. “One more stop…the US Open. It would mean a lot to me to become the winner of the Tour because you are on board at every event. It’s an accumulation of events instead of just one day”, he said after his recent win.

Finishing in the Swatch TTR Top 5 attracts prestige, cash rewards and invitations to the major events next season. Currently in World No.2, Chas Guldemond (USA), has maintained a strong position in the TTR ranking through sheer determination and motivation. He recently claimed both the Slopestyle and Halfpipe titles at the 5Star Nissan X-Trail Asian Open which has boosted his confidence and TTR points as the US Open approaches.

FRENDS, Finns and upcoming rookies make up the aspiring TTR Top 5 finishers. Last year’s Swatch TTR Tour Champ, Kevin Pearce (USA), currently sits in World No.4 and will be looking to finish strongly before heading off to film. Just like his fellow FRENDS crew member Mason Aguirre (USA) who now sits in World No. 8 but has his sight set firmly on the TTR Top 5. The Finns in the race for the top ranks are current World No. 3 Risto Mattila (FIN) and World No. 6 Antti Autti who are both looking for another good TTR season finish. Out to stop them both will be upcoming World No.7, Charles Reid (CAN) who is likely to unleash his trademark progressive moves and score a good result.

Austrian Masters 2009 Slope Style

Last week, the 2009 Austrian snowboard freestyle championships ended in Westendorf spectacularly.

Final of “Shred Down Austrian Masters”

Last weekend Westendorf became the unofficial snowboard capital of Austria. During the course of the event titles were handed out in the disciplines of Superpipe and Slopestyle. The master in the pipe had already been selected the weekend before last in Innsbruck/Seegrube,
therefore, yesterday the best park riders had to be found.

Pushed by the dream of becoming Austrian master, the riders showed breath-taking and spectacular tricks. In perfect weather conditions international and local riders presented a great show to the spectators.

Herby Thaler from Styria showed three perfect runs and became Austrian Slopestyle champion. Claudia Fliri won the women’s ranking. Fabio Projaska became best rookie. Wolle Beer from Innsbruck won the combination of Pipe and Park. Sandy Gecek was in total the best woman and Johannes Handle became in total best rookie. Chris Hohlrieder showed the best run of the day and the local Simon Pircher was unbeatable on the rails.

The performances of the riders and the chilled atmosphere during the contest and at the party made the event special and unique.

The n.asa, the Ästhetiker und the Shredheadz want to thank everybody for showing up. See you next year.

Back from Czech

Bad weather didn’t stop the Black Yeti and riders from 6 nations to rock at the “Protest East Rookie Fest” in Spindleruv Mlyn, Czech Republic, in order to conquer the last invitation at the upcoming rookie finals. The event saw an high level of riding in both half pipe than slope style competition, re-loading the same format of the 2008 edition in Czech, with an overall rank as avarage of both results.

Saturday was the half pipe day in a very easy format: 2 hours training, 3 run each, best two count for the rank. Even if the pipe wasn’t perfect because of rainy days before the event, the level was pretty high and the norwegians conquered the whole male rookie podium: Eskii Korneliussen, Rudi Oesterhus and Even Solbraa. Czech youngster Martin Mikyska dominate the grom category in the half pipe.

Sunday slopestyle saw a set up including kinked box and jump from 10 to 18 meters The format of 4 run best 2 counts, allowed an high level contest with technical tricks such as bs1080, switch 1080 and double backflip 180. Among the rookies the Czech ripper Darek Bergmann dominate the session with sick tricks, clear landings and smooth style. On the rookie podium other 2 czech riders: Petr Horak and Filip Gutwirth. Thomas Tramnitz impressed judge and spectators with double backflip and double backflip 180.

Diana Augustinova resulted the best girl of the competition, while Martin Mikyska the best male grom.

River Jump 2009 in Italy

Livigno, Italy, February 24th 2009: The 4Star Riverjump is back in 2009 after a one year absence, ready to bring Swatch TTR action back to Livigno. From March 4th – 6th 2009, an international contingent comprised of some of the top TTR snowboarders will descend on Italy to fight for two batches of 500 TTR ranking points and a € 20 000 Euro prize purse. Under lights, right in the centre of Livigno, riders will launch over the iconic ‘Spoel’ River in hope of improving their TTR World Ranking. Upcoming shred talent will also have the chance to take on the invited riders, with winners of a separate 4Star Slopestyle competition going through to Friday’ main event.

The set up will be overseen by the Swatch Mottolino Snowpark crew under the expert supervision of Roby Moresi, who designed the halfpipe in Bardonecchia for the Winter Olympic Games in Turin 2006.

In its short history the Riverjump has developed a repuation as one of Italy’s premier snowboard contests – a fact which has attracted some of Swatch TTR’s most talked about riders this year. Winner of the the 6Star Billabong Air & Style Innsbruck and World No.33, Colin Frei (SUI) will be in Livigno looking to move up into the TTR Top 30. He will be joined by fellow Air and Style podium finisher, World No.14, Olivier Gittler (FRA) who has had a strong season and will be aiming to improve his position in the TTR Top 20. Italian star, Manuel Pietropoli will carry the hopes of the nation on his shoulders and has a super strong chance to improve on his World No.40 ranking.

Also Sweden will be well represented by Chris Sörman, who currently sits in World No.24 and has the potential to move up.The contest will also be further bolstered by returning 2007 Riverjump title winner, Yale Cousino (USA) and Finnish rookie, Niki Korpela, two riders who have forged names for themselves by anhililating rails. This has been Niki’s breakout season on the Swatch TTR World Tour so he’ll be looking for a win to reassure everyone of his talent.

As the season end fast approaches lower ranked riders are also trying to improve their standings at many upcoming 3Star events. The Coors Light YLD Riders Cup Norquay Open is taking place in Alberta, Canada, February 26th – 27th, 2009. On February 27th, 2009 the Axis Slopestyle in Quebec, Canada goes down and March 1st, 2009 sees the Snowboard Challenge in Madonna di Campiglio, Italy. A whole week of shredding will be going down at the Austrian Masters @ Shreddown from February 28th 2009 – March 7th, 2009 Innsbruck, Austria.

This season the riders’ 7 best results will be averaged to crown the rider who has dominated across all formats as final victor at the last 6Star event. A total prize money payout of over
