2014.15 World Rookie Tour Announced

The Black Yeti is ready to announce the 2014.15 World Rookie Tour with 11 international events all around the Globe. For the 10th edition, the best youth snowboard series is going even better with new countries involved, more halfpipe events and new end of season special prizes to award the season best riders.

The 2014.15 tour kicked off in the Southern Hemisphere with the events in Chile and Australia and now is time to hit the Northern side of the world. New halfpipe events will take place in Laax, Switzerland, and Oslo, Norway. Greece will join the tour with a slopestyle where the Black Yeti will conquer the Olympus. The oldest event in the tour, WSF World Rookie Fest, will be held for the 10th time in Livigno, Italy, and it will offer a brand new event concept to celebrate its first decade. The Volkl World Rookie Finals in Ischgl, Austria, recently announced special side activities and VIP guests.

In addition to the freeride trips, ticket to world class events, Onboard photo shooting and Pirate film session, the overall tour prize list has been upgraded with a new Rookie Shooting to be held in Corvatsch, Switzerland, next May 2015.

Waiting for 2014.15 World Rookie Tour: the 10th edition!

With the coming season World Rookie Tour will celebrate its 10th anniversary. A decade of groundbreaking events all around the world to find out and support today and tomorrow stars of snowboarding.

Globally recognized as the largest youth snowboard series and renowned for its incredible level of riding, with the 10th edition World Rookie Tour will introduce many features: brand new events in new countries, an amazing end of season prize and many other surprises for the Black Yeti birthday.

2014 Australia Rookie Fest

The 5th edition of the Australian Rookie Fest Down Under took place in Thredbo Resort, one of the top ski area in the Southern Hemisphere. Thredbo Super Park welcomed the best rookies and groms from Australia and New Zealand competing for Red Bull Stunt Plane Flights and tickets to the 2015 Volkl World Rookie Finals in Ischgl, Australia.

It was a very tight competition in the rookie male category with 16 year old Matty Cox taking out the title of the event with technical, smooth and stylish runs. Last year’s grom winner Josh Vagne impressed the judges and found himself in second, followed by Sam Christie from New Zealand in third.  Even if some of the rail set up were a bit daunting for the groms, Jack Christie landed a super smooth run and take the top place on the podium, with Alex Brookes in second and Kaleb Vagne in third. Among the girls Tess Coady showed solid spins and style on the jumps to take first place. Zahra Kell was the best girl on the rail section and get the second place, followed by Georgia Crisp in third.

The winners are looking forward to taking their Red Bull stunt plane flights and turning up to Ischgl next year to represent Australia at the 2015 Volkl World Rookie Finals.

Japan takes over the South America Rookie Fest 2014

A clear blue sky welcomed the 5th edition of the South America Rookie Fest in Valle Nevado , Chile, with participants from Chile and Argentina and the guest from Japan, Keita Inamura World Rookie Champion and Kaito Hamada World Grom Champion.

The slopestyle well shaped by the Gap Snowpark crew, with a down rail, two kickers and a rail set at the end, gave to every rider the chance to impress the judge. Best run of three counted for the ranking of the event.

Thanks to the sunny day and the good vibe rookies and groms showed a great level.
Local hero Antonia Yanez resulted as best girl with solid 360 on the kickers. In the groms category Kaito Hamada laid down the best run, with a fs3 and a huge bs7, followed by Julian Cortes and Alvaro Yanez.
Keita Inamura confirmed is good condition with an impressive run, bstail 270out on the first rail, fs7 and bs10 on the kickers and 270in fs board slide on last rail set. Behind him, as second in rookie category, came Federico Chiaradio from Argentina stomping cab5 and fs7, on third position team mate from Argentina, Pedro Bidegain.

The Wsf World Rookie Tour Moves South

The Black Yeti and his Rookie Fest events will go down under in South America and Australia for the summer leg of the World Rookie Tour.

The search for next snowboarding future stars is starting again as the Black Yeti follows the snow and the winter to the Southern Hemisphere and is ready to kick off the World Rookie Tour 2014/15 in Valle Nevado, Chile, and in Thredbo, Australia.

2014 SOUTH AMERICA ROOKIE FEST in VALLE NEVADO, CHILE

The new WSF World Rookie Tour season will start with the 2014 South America Rookie Fest from the 8th to 12th August, in Valle Nevado, Chile, one of the most incredible event hosting the Black Yeti and his youngsters. The Chilean top quality ski resort Valle Nevado will hosted already 4 time the SARF offering to promising future snowboarding talents in South America a program with a WST slopestyle contest, freeride experience with pros, skate and surf sessions and cultural activities such as a tour in  the capital city of Santiago and a visit to the city of Valparaiso, an Unesco world heritage. USA, Asian and European riders will compete with top South American rookies for a ticket to the 2015 World Rookie Fest in Livigno and to the 2015 Volkl World Rookie Finals in Ischgl.

Prizes
The top 2 riders of the event will be invited for free to the next winter’s season 2015 World Rookie Fest in Livigno, Italy and 2015 Volkl World Rookie Finals. All podium riders from both rookie and grom, boys and girls, will be qualified for the 2015 Volkl World Rookie Finals in Ischgl.

For the fifth year in a row, the Black Yeti hits Down Under for the 2014 Australian Rookie Fest. The 2 Star WST slopestyle event will take place from 22nd to 23rd  August 2014 in Thredbo, Australia, where some of the world’s best young shredders will fight for amazing prizes as all podium riders will be qualified for the 2015 Volkl World Rookie Finals in Ischgl Austria and the male and female Rookie winner will also receive all inclusive entries to the event.

The Final Video of the 2014 Völkl World Rookie Finals Is Out Now

After seven stops all around the globe, the World Rookie Tour 2013 / 14 came to an end with a big slam during the 2014 VÖLKL WORLD ROOKIE FINALS. From April 2nd to 6th, 2014 more than 110 of the world’s best young snowboarders travelled from all over globe to the Austrian Alp town Ischgl in order to live up a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

In a WST 3star slopestyle competition, the young shreadheads showcased a lot of massive runs like they have never been witnessed before in the nine-years-old history of the World Rookie Tour.

Keita Inamura (JPN) and Katie Ormerod (GBR) are the big winners of the season having conquered the titles of the male and female World Rookie Champion 2014. Throughout the week, the Rookies and Groms enjoyed a unique side program with several social activity workshops by Chuck Barfoot, Gummi Love and Viva con Agua.

Winners of the 2014 Völkl World Rookie Finals Are Crowned

The final day of the 2014 VÖLKL WORLD ROOKIE FINALS (WST 3 star) proved that the future of snowboarding is in good hands. The world’s best young snowboarders presented an amazing show at the snowpark Ischgl showcasing an impressive level of riding.

For the first time in the history of the tour, the title of the World Rookie Champion is going to Japan conquered by Keita Inamura. 16-years old Katie Ormerod from Great Britaintopped the podium in first as best Rookie girl. The contest format was judged in an overall impression – the best of three runs counts for the final ranking.

Keita Inamura (JPN) ended up as the best rider of the day killing it with a massive ride that would have placed well in an adult high class comp. The 17-years old shredhead went all out in his third run performing a Backside 1260 Melon and a Switch Backside 1260 Melon on the kickers, entering the jib-area with a Lip to Front Boardslide Gap 50-50 followed by a 50-50 Frontside 360 out and a Backside 360 on the pinkball – a solid basis for the young rider who received a wild card to the first edition of the Air & Style 2014/15.

Katie Ormerod (GBR) grabbed the female World Rookie Champion title impressing with a Cab 180 Indy and a cool Backside 720 Mute on the first two jumps followed by a 50-50 to Boardslide, another 50-50, a super stylish Frontside Boardslide before closing off with a Nose Bonk on the pinkball.

The Japanese wings were flying high this year: on the Groms’ front it was Kaito Hamada (JPN) who took home the title of the best Grom with a huge run that would have placed him at fourth position in the Rookie category: Cab 900 Melon, Backside 900 Melon, Cab Hardway in Gap to Boardslide followed by a Front Boardslide 270 out and leaving the jib-area with a Bonk 720 on the pinkball.

Best Grom girl is Elli Pikkujamsa (FIN) who showed a Cab 540 Tail Grab and a Backside 360 Indy in the jumps, a 50-50 Ollie Tailbonk out, then a 50-50 Frontboardslide followed by a 50-50 Frontside 180 out and a Half Cab on the pinkball.

Qualification Day 2 at the 2014 Völkl World Rookie Finals

On qualification day 2 of the 2014 VÖLKL WORLD ROOKIE FINALS, it was the Rookies’ time to shine. 56 boys and girls up to 18 years competed for their entrances to the big finals.

The Rookie boys with the highest scores will fight for the title of the male World Rookie Champion 2014. Keita Inamura (JPN) laid down the best run of the day with a big Backside 900 Mute and a stomped Switch Backside 900 Mute on the kickers followed by a Backside 360 out of the pool and riding out of the jib-are with a big Backside 360 on the pink ball.

Close behind him came Mons Røisland (NOR) as second best male Rookie performing a huge Switch Backside 900 Tail Grab, a Frontside 720 Indy and a superstylish Japan Backflip out of the toblerone, closing with a huge Cab 360 Shifty out of the pink ball.

The other qualifiers impressed with tricks like a Cab Double Mute Underflip (Sean Neary, USA),a Frontside 1080 Mellon (Alois Lindmoser, AUT) and a lot of huge Back 720s and supercool Front 720s.
“The level of riding in the qualifications among the boys as well as the girls improved again in comparison to the last year”, said the happy event organizer Meinhard Trojer.

Among the twelve female Rookies, six made their ways to the big finals. Katie Ormerod (GBR) resulted as the best girl convincing the judges with a Cab 180 Indy and a Backside 360 Indy on the first two jumps and finishing off her run with a Nose Bonk on the pink ball. The other girls who made it to the finals showed impressing Front 360s and Back 360 on the large line.

After the competition, the young shreadheads enjoyed all together a workshop by Viva con Agua where they learned about the value of water and the different projects of the world’s first “all-profit-organization”.

Qualification Day 1 at the 2014 Völkl World Rookie Finals

The qualifications for the youngest competitors at the 2014 VÖLKL WORLD ROOKIE FINALS were going down on April 3rd. Within the 41 strong field of Groms, every rider had the chance to impress the judges in two runs – the best run counted for the ranking. The six best female and the twelve best male Groms qualified to the finals which are scheduled for Saturday, April 5th 2014.

Elli Pikkujamsa (FIN) showed today’s best run among the girls performing a solid Cab 180 Tail and a Backside 360 on the first two jumps. Hanne Kjøll Eilertsen (NOR) qualified as second with two Straight Nose Grabs on the large line followed by Reira Iwabuchi (JPN) who came third with a Backside 360 and a Frontside 360.

The youngest participant of the contest was 7 years old Jaquelina de Jong (NED) performing one 14 – and one 13 meters Straight Jump.

Sam Christie (NZL) resulted as the best rider of the day with a huge run including a Frontside 720 Mellon Grab on the first kicker, a solid Backside 720 Mute on the second jump, a massive Frontside 360 out of the toblerone and finishing it off with a 360 out of the rail.

Second ranked Rene Rinnekangas (FIN) impressed with a big Backside 720 mute and a stomped Frontside 720 Mellon on the kickers followed by a huge Method out of the toblerone, a nice Frontside Boardslide 270 out and ending up with a Handplant 270 on the pinkball.
Kaito Hamada (JPN) showcased a cool Backside 720 Mellon as well as a Backside Rodeo 540 on the first two jumps. He then laid down a Cab 180 in and 360 out of the toblerone, jibbing with a frontside boardslide 270 out of the park.

The social activity program included an Analog Photo Workshop, a Gummi Love Workshop as well as an amazing presentation of one of the fathers of snowboarding: Chuck Barfoot! The snowboard legend presented the history of snowboard design. In his workshop, the participants got to know about how he and Tom Sims constructed their first snowboards in 1978 and how they developed them to the models that the Groms and Rookies ride today.

Rookies are Checking in in Ischgl and Checking out the Park

The 2014 VÖLKL WORLD ROOKIE FINALS kicked off by welcoming the world’s best young snowboarders in Ischgl.

During the arrival day, the Rookies and Groms moved into their hotels and took it easy enjoying a perfect sunny day in the small Alp town – getting ready for some awesome days to come. This morning the young guns are testing the slopes in a training session. During the week, more than 110 riders from 24 nations will compete for the title of the World Rookie Champion 2014 in a WST 3 star slopestyle event.

Since the number of riders is that high this year, the qualifications will be held on 2 days – already today, the Groms are battling for the tickets to finals.

The 2014 Völkl World Rookie Finals Are Coming Up

More than 110 young snowboarders from 24 nations are registered for the most important youth snowboard event of the season.

This week, the Austrian town Ischgl is turning once again to the hot spot for future snowboard stars from all over globe: Only 1 day left until we celebrate the great showdown of the 2014 VÖLKL WORLD ROOKIE FINALS where the world’s best Rookies and Groms will be awarded in a 3 Star WST slopestyle contest.

BATTLING FOR A TICKET TO THE AIR & STYLE!

Besides competing for the title of the World Rookie Champion 2014, the best young riders of the season have the chance to win many other high qualitative prizes, such as a freeride trip to Chile and a film shooting with Pirate Movie Production. The best male Rookie will receive a wild card for the first Air & Style Event in the upcoming season 2014/15.

Bulgarian Rookie Fest

For a second year the Black Yeti came to Bulgaria for the Bulgarian Rookie Fest at Pamporovo. This year the event was ranked with 3 stars. Bulgarian Rookie Fest was the last stop before the “Grande Finale” for the top rookies of the season. Bulgarian, Czech and Romanian rookies fought for the two wild cards, which get them directly to the finals at Ischgl, Austria. The winners from the different age groups also received vouchers for a brand new Never Summer Industries boards season 14-15. The ticket for the finals at Ischgl, Austria took Konstantin Slavov from the boys and Michaela Varoshkina from the girls.

2014 Bulgaria Rookie Fest Pamporovo, Bulgaria

On March 22nd and 23rd, 2014 rookies have the last chance to qualify at the world rookie tour stop left before the Grande Finale in Ischgl, Austria.

 

The organizers of the bulgarian rookie tour stop just announced that the halfpipe contest has been cancelled but riders may have the chance for a jam session in the pipe anyway, so get yourself ready!

1. Entries and important forms

2. Team registration & Entry fee
Team registration will take place on 20-21st of March from 9:30 to 13:00 in the Race Office at hotel Perelik.
10eur entry fee for the event.
All registered riders will receive access to the funpark lifts for the days of the event.

3. Accommodation
The price of Half board HB (bed, breakfast & dinner) for all team members and guests is 40 BGN (20 EUR) at Hotel Perelik for a double room accommodation & 50 BGN (25 EUR) in a single room accommodation. Accommodation at this rate will be provided for the nights of March 9th –17th , 2014. Each team will be held responsible for any damage incurred during the stay. Payments only in Bulgarian Leva (BGN), 1 EUR =1,96 BGN. There ATMs next to the hotel. Please, make your booking on time, to make sure you have a lodging

4. Transportation

By airplane:
Teams can fly to Sofia Airport. The OC can provide shuttle service from Sofia Airport to Pamporovo for 60 eur, per person for 1 or 2 persons shuttle, for group or 3 people or more it will be 35 eur per person for a group shuttle . . To book a shuttle send us your flight details at: reg@funpark.bg or furkov@gmail.com.

Driving directions to Pamporovo – 240km or 3 – 3.5 hours from Sofia Circle road by car:
From Sofia get on the Highway to Plovdiv and after 130 km look for sign directing to “Smolyan”(Smolian) or “Pamporovo” then flow the “Smolyan”(Smolian) signs. If you use GPS Navigation just put Pamporovo, hotel Perelik and use the main roads, avoid any second class roads!

5. Meals
Breakfast and dinner are provided at Hotel Perelik. There is a big choice of restaurants in the area offering Bulgarian and Continental meals for lunch. We will inform you on team registration about any additional discounts that will be offered for lunch.

6. Bibs
All teams must wear bibs during the official trainings, competition and the award
ceremony. Riders can keep the bibs after the competition.

7. Accident insurance
Each competitor must have his/her own medical insurance. The Organizing
Committee, sponsors, suppliers, their agents, Pamporovo resort, the OC, decline any responsibility for accidents, damaged or lost equipment and second and third party claims during the event.
8. Liability
All athletes, officials and members of the National Association who attend and participate in the event shall do so at their own risk. The Organizing Committee, Pamporovo resort, the OC, sponsors and suppliers, their agents, employees and volunteers shall not be responsible for any losses or injuries incurred or suffered by any athlete, official or other person in conjunction with the organizing or staging of the event.

– Additional every Nation is allowed to nominate 2 Rookies Men, 1 Rookie Girl, 1 Grom Men, 1 Grom Girl.

WRT Cancellations: Japan and Czech Republic

Two tour stop of the World Rookie Tour have been cancelled due to weather conditions.

Due to weather conditions the Indy Park Banzai Rookie Fest in Japan was cancelled and the same it happened for the 2014 East Rookie Fest in Vitkovice, Czech Republic, where the poor snow conditions don’t allow our team to build the slopestyle course.

Shred Down Austrian Masters 2014

After its Olympic debut in Sochi the freestyle discipline of slopestyle is going back to the roots from the 7th till the 9th of March in Westendorf.

What started as a gathering of the Austrian shred collective the Ästhetiker and a few Air and Style riders in 1998 is nowadays the oldest and one of the best shred contests in Europe.
The so called Shred Down in Westendorf (Tyrol) has witnessed a long list of legendary winners and great freestyle battles in the famous Boarders Playground over the last fifteen years. Once again this year the young motivated rookies are going to challenge the routined legends for the glory of the Austrian Master. Just a week later the finals of the Shred Down Austrian Masters are going to take place in Kühtai /Innsbruck, where a perfectly prepared pipe is waiting for the riders.
Besides freestyle snowboarding at its best both weekends guarantee a high quality party set up. Stickybud and Funkanomics will rock the Alpenrosensaal in Westendorf on the 8th of March followed by Stylo G and the Drunken Masters at the Weekender Club in Innsbruck a week later.

The finals of the Zillertal VALLEY RALLEY

On February 22nd and 23rd 2014, the inaugural Zillertal VÄLLEY RÄLLEY hosted by Ride Snowboards reached its peak with the 4th and final tour-stop in Mayrhofen. The legit Vans Penken Park welcomed riders with blue skies and perfect conditions just in time for the slopestyle finals on Sunday. Snowboarders of all age groups participated and made this final tour-stop a great session. The kids, girls, amatures and pros ripped the park with style and made it an exciting freestyle competition to watch. In the Groms class 13-year-old Talha Karakova from Germany won the gold medal. In the Girls competition the skills of the German shredder named Martina Zollner landed her in first. The talented Englishmen and Zillertal seasoner Jamie Trinder took Best Trick with his switch backside 900 and came out on top of the podium in the Men´s category as well. Hailing from a village named Buch just outside the Zillertal valley, the 8-year-old Kris Havaux ripped his way to the title of “Best Grom of the Day.”

The very last tour-stop and final event of the Zillertal VÄLLEY RÄLLEY hosted by Ride Snowboards went off on February 22nd and 23rd at the Vans Penken Park in Mayrhofen. The fresh-falling snow and a limited visibility did not stop the riders from learning new tricks and having fun during the Saturday pro-coaching sessions with Steve Gruber, Chris Kroell and Friedl Kolar.

Saturday Night´s Ästhetiker party at the Scotland Yard Pub in Mayrhofen was rocking from the sounds of DJ Saund and DJ Be Fantana. There was good vibes all night and the VÄLLEY RÄLLEY final-party crowd kept it raging and dancing until the early morning.

The big finals were on the cards for Sunday. Just in time for the slopestyle contest, the perfectly shaped Vans Penken Park showed itself with nice light, blue skies and sunshine. On Penken’s advanced line, all the kids, girls and men who participated threw down an exciting slopestyle competition. A victory for all among themselves.

Zillertal VÄLLEY RÄLLEY hosted by Ride Snowboards: Crowning of the Tour Champions With the results totaled from all four events including the finals in Mayrhofen added up, the Zillertal VÄLLEY RÄLLEY overall rankings are confirmed. Czech rookie-rider Jan Rovensky rules the Groms category with the highest score. After the final tour-stop prize giving he was crowned Prince of the VÄLLEY at the Grillhof Alm and also wins a starting spot for the World Rookie Finals. German female shredder Martina Zollner did not only claim the tourstop title, but also was crowned Queen of the VÄLLEY. The Overall Tour Champion crown goes to local Mayrhofen rider Alex Walch. He is the very first King of the VÄLLEY and retains the scepter in the Zillertal.

All three Overall Champions were honored with one of the highly coveted starting spots in the National Championships N.ASA Shred Down Austrian Masters Slopestyle. 7-year-old Fabian Nehring got finally awarded “Most impressive Grom of the Tour.” Big congratulations to all!

Trentino Rookie Fest – Day 3

The Trentino Rookie Fest ended today with qualifications and finals of the halfpipe at the Monte Mondone Snowpark. The winners of the contest are Berenice Wicki (Grom Girls), Gian Sutter (Grom Men), Karoline Herleiksplass (Rookie Girls) and Luis Eckert (Rookie Men).

Berenice Wicki from Swiss is the winner of the grom girls category giving her all in her second run of the finals with frontside air, backside air, frontside 360, cab 360, frontside 540 and air to fakie in the end. Kaja Verdnik (SLO) and Eva Kraly (SLO) earned second and third place.

The rookie girls contest was dominated by Karoline Herleiksplass (NOR) who claimed first place with a run made by: frontside air, backside air, frontside air mute grab, backside air and frontside 360. Alice Fortuna (ITA) and Giorgia Locatin (ITA) on second and third place.

In the grom men finals it was the swiss rider Gian Sutter who earned first place followed by Elias Rupp (SUI) and Mathias Wicki (SUI), featuring on his best run backside air, frontside 360 indy, cab 360, frontside 540, backside air and alley oop at the end.

Perhaps, most impressively, Luis Eckert from Germany won in the rookie men category with a run made by frontside 720, cab 720, frontside 540, backside 540 and alley oop rodeo 540. Michael Scharer (SUI) and Tit Stante (SLO) on second and third place.

The Trentino World Rookie Fest ends today and the Black Yeti leaves Italy and moves to Bulgaria for the Bulgarian Rookie Fest, Pamporovo, (22nd- 23rd March, 2014).

Trentino Rookie Fest – Day 2

Hanne Eilertsen (Grom Girls) Elias Rupp (Grom Men) Giorgia Locatin (Rookie Girls) Bendik Gjerdalen (Rookie Men) reached the highest podiums of today.

The Trentino Rookie Fest started with a sunny weather but it quickly changed into cloudy but visibility was good and the 68 riders competing in the slopestyle contest had pretty much fun. Hanne Eilertsen (Grom Girls) Elias Rupp (Grom Men) Giorgia Locatin (Rookie Girls) Bendik Gjerdalen (Rookie Men) reached the highest podiums of today.

Hanne Eilertsen from Norway is the winner of the grom girl category followed by Kaja Verdnik (SLO) and Ariane Burri (SUI). Hanne showed an impressive run including cab 180 to backside 360 tail grab and a frontside 360 on the kicker line, followed by boardslide on the last rail.

In the rookie girls finals it was the italian rider Giorgia Locatin, who earned first place followed by Babs Barnhoorn (NED) and Karoline Herleiksplass (NOR), featuring cab 180 on the first kicker, followed by backside 360 on the second kicker, stalefish on the last kicker and boardslide on the box.

The grom men were dominated by Elias Rupp who claimed his victory with a run made of underflip followed by switch backside 540 and backside 360 on the kicker line and boardslide 270 out of the rail. Nicola Liviero (ITA) and Gian Sutter (SUI) on second and third place.

In the rookie men category the Bendik Gjerdalen from Norway resulted the best rider of the day with a run made by backside 540, switch backside 540 and double underflip on the 3 kickers and frontside boardslide 270 out of the rail. Luis Eckert (GER) and Florian Prietl (AUT) on second and third place.

Tomorrow morning riders will meet again at the Monte Mondone Snowpark for the halfpipe contest.
