World Rookie Fest welcomes Top Rookies

Livigno and Mottolino Snowpark welcomed 144 competitors from 14 different Nations aged 9 to 18, competing in the 12th edition of the legendary World Rookie Fest.

Today, January 14, all participants got the chance to test the slopestyle setup during the open training session. Unfortunately poor snow conditions and wind storm for four days in a row didn’t allow the previously announced snowpark set up. Mottolino Snowpark shapers crew spent the last days to create the best possible slopestyle course for our Rookies. The final set up consists of a downrail, 1 table with 2 kickers each (12 meters, 16 meters) and another rail, the last jibbing obstacle.

Competition started today with the training day and a great opening ceremony, with the video première of Stronger, the Union Team Movie, and the welcome party. In the next days the Mottolino Snowpark will host qualifications. In two heats, rookies have to prove their talent for their entries into the super finals scheduled on the Wednesday 18th January. In the meanwhile, for tomorrow afternoon (Monday 16th January) Black Yeti plans a great program: at 16:30 the stunning video premiere “2016 World Rookie Tour TV Show” with the best moments from last season tour, follows by the gripping workshop “How to increase rider’s visibility”.

Get ready for incredible tricks from the world’s best young snowboarders in the slopestyle contests at the Livigno Mottolino Snowpark! This is the place of positive energy, cool tricks and good vibes!

Toyota US Grand Prix Kicks Off at Copper Mountain

The world’s most elite snowboarders are at Copper Mountain this week for the first stop of the Toyota U.S. Grand Prix tour. The snowboarders will compete in halfpipe and in big air.

With a ton of fresh snow falling at Copper Mountain over the last week, the 22-foot Main Vein Superpipe is open and ready for action from the top snowboarders in the world. The big air jump, built adjacent to the Main Vein halfpipe at Copper’s Centre Village, will serve as the first non-scaffolding big air venue featured on the World Cup circuit since Valmalenco, Italy in 2008.

In the halfpipe, watch for competitive performances from Olympic gold medalists Kelly Clark (West Dover, VT) and Shaun White (Carlsbad, CA). However, the seasoned veterans will have to contend with up-and-comers who are hungry for their time at the top of the podium. In women’s halfpipe keep an eye out for Chloe Kim (La Palma, CA), who made history at the Park City Grand Prix in February when she landed back-to-back 1080s and received a perfect score. On the men’s side, White may see his greatest competition from 2014 Olympic gold medalist Iouri Podlatchikov of Switzerland, but he will also have to watch out for Americans like the brother duo of Ben and Gabe Ferguson (Bend, OR) and two-time X Games gold medalist Danny Davis (Highland, MI).

Olympic gold medalist Jamie Anderson (South Lake Tahoe, CA) will take to the big air jump, where she will be a heavy favorite after a win at the Winter Dew Tour last weekend. Also coming in hot for the women is 16-year-old Hailey Langland (San Clemente, CA) who placed just behind Anderson in second at the Dew Tour and Julia Marino, who won last season’s Big Air at Fenway and was second at November’s Olympic test event in Korea. The American men are a deeply talented squad, including: Chas Guldemond (Reno, NV), who is fresh off a fourth-place finish at the Winter Dew Tour; Kyle Mack (West Bloomfield, MI), who is the reigning Burton US Open slopestyle champion; Chris Corning (Silverthorne, CO), who was the overall FIS slopestyle champion in 2016 and Eric Willett (Breckenridge, CO), who won the Park City slopestyle event in February.

The event will offer riders valuable points towards the FIS rankings, as well as the World Snowboard Tour (WST) rankings. Both events will be broadcast on NBC, along with live streaming of the finals on nbcsports.com.

Florian Fischer wins the first World Rookie Rail Jam by Skipass

Sun and warm temperatures welcomed enthusiastic spectators to ModenaFiere to witness the first urban rail contest in the history of the World Rookie Tour. Set up was definitely one of the Europe’s best urban rail set in the last years, designed and built by the wise shapers of F-tech Company based in South Tyrol.

ROOKIE RAIL CONTEST-60

33 invited Rookies from 9 different Nations battle it out but it was Florian Fischer from Switzerland who conquer the event with his technical and loose style. All the Rookies gave a spectacle to the hyped crowd and after an exciting contest day, the Helvetic won with a Kamikaze Bs board Pretzel 2 out e Fs 2 in 2 out. Second place for another Swiss rider Gian Andrea Sutter with Kamikaze Fs270 in and Kamikaze Bs 180 in, third place for the Italian Nicola Liviero with a 50-50 to Gap Fs Board Kamikaze and 50-50 to transfer 270 out of the wall.

The massive structure consisted of 8 meters down rail, 9 meters double kinked, 12 meters step down rail, pol jam, wall rider, 5 meters rainbow rail, 3 meters straight rail to 3 meters transfer. The athletes performed to the best of their abilities, and pleased judges and crowds alike.

For the Rookies the experience was unforgettable, especially for the great visit at the Ferrari Museum in Maranello, a nice overview from the old vintage cars to the new prototypes. Rookies and Black Yeti really enjoyed it! Back to the fair, during the Cash for Trick Night Contest the world’s best rookies rails rippers fought it out for the crowd’s approval. This format allowed the riders to show off their best tricks to the approving cheers of the numerous onlookers.

wrt-2016-7-kaprunHere the big news: after nine successful editions of the World Rookie Finals in Ischgl, the grand finale of the 2017 World Rookie Tour will move to Kitzsteinhorn, Zell am See-Kaprun, Austria. The 2017 World Rookie Finals will bring together young riders to identify the top young snowboarders in the world, and to compete together in both halfpipe and slopestyle contests.

To offer a new event format with both slopestyle and halfpipe the World Rookie Tour caravan selected a new location for its “Gran Finale”: Kitzsteinhorn, Zell am See-Kaprun.
