Polish Rookie Fest 2025: a spectacular success!

The inaugural Polish edition of the World Rookie Tour in Białka Tatrzańska has concluded, marking a historic moment for Polish snowboarding and freeski scenes. The event, which took place from February 7-9, brought together the most promising young talents from Poland and abroad, showcasing the future of winter sports.

In the snowboard competition, the GROM (under-14) category saw some remarkable performances. In the women’s division, Mia Beza from Burton Polska dominated with an impressive score of 58.75, demonstrating technical prowess beyond her years. The men’s category was equally exciting, with Gustav Nawarkiewicz-Wisniewski, representing multiple sponsors including The Riots and Burton, securing first place with an outstanding score of 83.50.

The ROOKIE (14-17) category brought international flavor to the competition. In the women’s division, Czech rider Viktorie Zvadova claimed victory with a score of 54.75, while Zofia Mamrowicz represented Poland proudly with a second-place finish. The men’s category saw Czech rider Vojtech Horky take the top spot with an impressive 80.25, followed by Valeriy Sytykh from Poland.

The freeski competition on Sunday was equally thrilling. In the GROM category, Aniela Szybka dominated the women’s division, while Latvia’s Emils Egle showed exceptional skill in the men’s category with a winning score of 58.00. The ROOKIE men’s category saw Radosław Gąsienica-Kleryk emerge victorious with a solid 62.25 score.

The event was enhanced by perfect weather conditions and excellent organization, with the ON Kotelnica snowpark providing an ideal venue for the competition. Participants and spectators alike enjoyed additional perks, including regional snacks and hot Lipton tea available throughout the event.

A high-level slopestyle event

The X-Jam Rookie Fest will be held at the renowned X-Jam Takaifuji, a well-known location in the Japanese snowboard scene for its perfectly designed snowpark, offering a technical and creative slopestyle course. Young athletes will have the chance to showcase their talent on a series of kickers and rails designed to push tricks to the next level.

With a solid reputation as a reference point for freestyle snowboarding in Asia, this stop of the World Rookie Tour will attract riders from all over the world, providing a breathtaking spectacle for all snowboard enthusiasts.

The 20th edition of the Livigno World Rookie Fest (WRF) wrapped up with an extraordinary showcase of freestyle skiing talent, community spirit, and next-level competition. Held at the iconic Mottolino Snowpark in Livigno, Italy—a location renowned for its world-class freestyle terrain—this milestone event reaffirmed its reputation as a must-attend contest for young athletes aiming to make their mark in the global freeskiing scene.

This year’s event was record-breaking, featuring the highest number of registered freeskiers since its inception. Participants worldwide, including Australia and New Zealand, flocked to Livigno after hearing glowing recommendations from past attendees, who praised the event’s top-tier organization, competitive spirit, and unforgettable atmosphere.

Blue skies, big hopes: a twist in the freeski qualifiers at Livigno World Rookie Fest

The second day of the Livigno World Rookie Fest kicked off under a stunning blue sky, with clear air and breathtaking views of the Livigno slopes. Despite the cold, the absence of wind created an enjoyable atmosphere for both athletes and spectators. Everything seemed set for an incredible day of freestyle action.

However, sometimes even perfect-looking days come with unexpected challenges. Due to unforeseen issues, the Race Direction made the difficult decision to interrupt the men’s qualifications midway for safety reasons. The first two heats were completed successfully, but the remaining two heats will need to be rescheduled. This decision was made with the well-being of the athletes as the highest priority, as ensuring safe competition is always the top concern.

The new schedule will see the remaining men’s qualification heats take place tomorrow morning, followed immediately by the women’s competition. If everything goes smoothly and the weather conditions remain favourable, the men’s finals are also planned for tomorrow morning, promising an action-packed day of high-level performances.

In the afternoon, with the competition paused, the crew made the most of the break with a fun curling session. Laughter, team spirit, and some surprisingly impressive shots turned it into a memorable experience for everyone. The unexpected activity brought the athletes and staff together, creating a moment of fun and relaxation before diving back into the competitive atmosphere.

Despite the schedule changes, the atmosphere at Mottolino Snowpark remains energetic and full of anticipation. The athletes are showing resilience and determination, ready to give their best when the time comes. The supporters, too, continue to cheer for their favourite riders, creating a vibrant community feel that embodies the true essence of the World Rookie Tour.

The Mottolino Snowpark delivered a solid setup that met the expectations of freeskiers and coaches worldwide. The course offers a well-balanced mix of features that allow riders to prepare for every aspect of the competition, from rail sections to medium and large kickers. While some fine-tuning may still be needed as the event progresses, the overall feedback from the riders has been positive.

For many rookies, this event isn’t just a competition—it’s a milestone in their journey as athletes. The Livigno World Rookie Fest is often their first taste of an international stage, and the experience they gain here goes far beyond rankings and medals. Successful premiere of the World Rookie Camp at Hintertux Glacier

The organizers of the World Rookie Tour, which has been successfully nurturing young talent for 20 years, are thrilled with the success of the inaugural World Rookie Camp at Hintertux Glacier presented by Ästhetiker & World Snowboard Federation in Hintertux (November 13-17, 2024). The camp was designed for freestyle talents from around the globe, whether on one board (snowboard) or two (skis). Its primary focus was park and pipe riding, with specialized training to prepare participants for the upcoming season.

A total of 25 kids and teenagers aged 11 to 18 from seven different countries participated in the camp. Betterpark Hintertux at the Hintertux Glacier offered ideal conditions for participants. Professional coaches were on hand to provide guidance and support. The accompanying program was exciting and educational: participants explored the unique Spannagel cave together, a truly one-of-a-kind experience. They also visited the Kaboom Trampoline Hall and attended the SafeShred Workshop by the World Snowboard Federation, which highlighted crucial topics like bullying and more. It was an incredible week for the young riders from around the world, who improved their riding skills and forged new friendships. The video contest not only offered cool prizes from the partners but also tickets to the World Rookie Tour Finals at the end of the season. With their video contributions, Alice Tholen (Snowboard/SWE), Kasten Jostrand (Snowboard/USA), and Jacqueline Kanzler (Ski/USA) have already secured their tickets to the ﬁnals!

Meinhard Trojer, co-founder of the World Rookie and event organizer, expressed his satisfaction: “I couldn’t have gone any better.” Balasz Gyorki, Snowboard Hungary coach, agreed: “The camp was amazing, with perfect weather. My kids learned a lot and grew as riders. They made new friends, and that’s the most important thing. Plus, they had so much fun. We’ll deﬁnitely be back!” Euan Baxter of Snowsports Scotland shared a similar sentiment: “It’s fantastic that our riders from Scotland can come here and connect with kids from all over Europe and even overseas. Snowboarding is more than just a sport – it’s a culture and lifestyle we need to support. That’s why it’s great to be here and contribute to that.” 15-year-old skier Jacqueline Kanzler travelled from the USA for the World Rookie Camp: “The time in Hintertux was amazing. We had so much fun, and the weather was perfect. I made new friends, and it’s so cool that everyone comes from different parts of the world.”

The 2025 Livigno World Rookie Fest is an official FIS event, offering participants the chance to earn valuable FIS points. However, FIS code is not mandatory: non-FIS athletes are warmly invited to participate and showcase their skills.

The 2025 Livigno World Rookie Fest will once again take place at the renowned Mottolino Snowpark, the same spectacular venue as in past years, known for its exceptional quality and unique course design. Created with passion and expertise by the legendary Mottolino Snowpark shaper crew, the setup will feature breathtaking jumps and technical structures that challenge even the most skilled riders. This unparalleled competition course is designed to amplify the excitement of freestyle and deliver an unforgettable experience for all participants.

The Livigno World Rookie Fest has established itself as the playground for the next generation of freestyle champions.
