Rookies rocking the slopes in Down Under

The Australian Rookie Fest Down Under had the sunniest weather of its 4 year history. The best Australian Rookies and Groms competed with European and North American riders in a 2Star WST slopestyle to conquer their tickets to the World 2014 Rookie Finals in Austria and for the Black Yeti’s honor.

The “Euro-Force” took out the 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions in the male Rookie division: Isak Ulstein (NOR), Rowan Coultas (GBR) and Roland Tschoder (AUT) conquered the podium. Joel Cantle was the best Australian in the Rookie Division while Roland Tschoder hit the best tricks of the event with one footer airs, much appreciated by the crowd.
In the girls section, the best rider resulted Mahalah Mullins (AUS), followed on the podium by Kirra Kotsenburg (USA) in 2nd and Cassie Fortune (AUS) as 3rd. Among the male Groms Josh Vagne got the top position in the podium and was the highest scored Aussie overall. Zahra Kell was the winner in the female Grom class, edging out Georgia Crisp in a close battle for the title of the event.
Jonas Bösiger (SUI), 2013 World Rookie Champion, and international pro rider Sage Kotsenburg (USA) were the special presenters of the event and of the awarding ceremony. They both spent time sharing some wisdom with the young riders.
A team of talented riders from Europe is now traveling around Australia as part of the World Rookie Tour program with trip, photoshooting and lifestyle experience reserved to the best athletes of the previous season. They will stay on a compete in The Mile High, a 4 star WST event at Perisher, followed by 3 days in Sydney where they will skate the Monster Skate Park, swim at the worldwide famouse surf spot “Bondi Beach”, walk in a National Park and see the Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge. Isak will also experience the thrill of a Red Bull Stunt Plane flight over Sydney as part of his prize for the first place in the 2013 Australian Rookie Fest.
Thanks also to NSW Government, Thredbo Resort, Ski and Snowboard Australia, NSW Snowsports, Monster Skate Park, Adrenaline Boardstore, and Semantics. Local hosts Peter Baff, Dom Brassier and Guy Whitehead welcomed the international riders into their homes and Steve and Matty Cox did a great job as crew. Thanks to the Northern Snowboard Committee for organizing another successful stop on the World Rookie Tour.
The event is scored in one line so Grom scores are relative to Rookie scores.
