Modena, Italy – 1.November 2010: The 4Star Nissan Stomp-It went down this weekend in Modena, Italy where Gerome Mathieu (FRA) took home his first 4Star TTR title. Set in an urban environment outside the convention halls of the Skipass tradeshow, the event had a great turnout despite the challenging weather conditions. Mathieu took home 8000 USD and 500 TTR ranking points for his first place win, local Italian rookie Marco Grigis took second place and third went to Jaakko Ruha (FIN), who also received 2000 USD and the “Styleman” title for his Frontside 900 Indy.
Solid Riding Despite Difficult Conditions
It was a windy and drizzly day in Modena, which made the landing of the 46-foot corner jump a bit soft increasing the difficulty for landing tricks. Some of the top riders in attendance, including current Swatch TTR World Tour leader, Gjermund Braaten (NOR), were not able to stomp tricks and missed advancing to the finals. Mathieu, however, was able to power through and put down a smooth Frontside 1080 Tailgrab on his third run to take home the victory. “I have ridden a lot of TTR in the last four years and never won or taken the podium, I won today and I’m really happy about that, I waited for that for years and it happened today!” said the stoked Mathieu on his win, “Next for me is the Pleasure Jam and maybe later the Big Air Stuttgart,” he commented on his plans for the season.
Swiss riders, Stephan Maurer who placed 4th and Markus Keller who took 5th place, put on a good show in the finals for the Italian crowd. Maurer was attempting to stomp his huge Double Backflip 180’s and Keller went for the Double Corks after landing a Double Backflip. With these results both have moved up into the TTR Top 100, placing them into a great position for the up and coming winter season. Keller said “I am planning to join the whole tour and bring home solid placements for all seven TTR results in order to go for the World Championships!” The TTR/WSF World Snowboarding Championships are going to be hosted in Oslo, Norway 2012.
Fresh Italian Rookie Talent
Marco Grigis, the 16-year old Italian rookie, was perfecting his double backside rodeo 900’s throughout the day and finally nailed it on his second run in the finals, receiving huge cheers. He ended the day in 2nd place, which gave him enough TTR ranking points to move into the Swatch TTR Top 50. Grigis is a rookie to watch out for with plenty more tricks under his belt, and he plans to ride the World Rookie Tour 2011.
